Frequently Asked Questions

We will do EVERYTHING in our power to help ensure that our Burmese kittens go to only the best homes, where they are treated as a member of the family!

How long until I receive my cat?

In short…it depends. While we wish everyone could instantly have one of our companion kittens IMMEDIATELY, mother nature has determined that not to be possible. But we assure you, it is worth the wait.

Once we have connected and received a non-refundable deposit to Companion Cats, you will be immediately placed on the waitlist for a kitten.

We will provide you with transparency on when we believe you will receive your new family member, but we cannot guarantee a specific date. This is because instead of forcing the cats to breed like many cat breeders, the cats live together in a colony in which they…make kittens…at their leisure.

What will my cat Look LIke? Can I choose?

Your Burmese kitten will be gorgeous!

For reference of what the kittens and cats will look like, please view our INSTAGRAM page.

We operate with a first in, first out approach for determining the cat you receive. While we want to hear your preferences, the available kittens will be adopted on a first come first serve basis.

Trust us when we say that once you have an adorable kitten through your door, and they do their first Burmese roll and purr, we find that the preferences that were once SO IMPORTANT immediately melt away!

Since we have ensured genetic diversity in our cats, we cannot predict with certainty the exact look of any cat. So many genes for Mother Nature to choose from!

Many of our cats have a parent from Thailand, where they lived at a market or a temple. This was to ensure the greatest genetic diversity we could, as in-bred cats don’t typically live long healthy lives.

Our cats typically come in SABLE, CHAMPAGNE, BLUE or PLATINUM. Sometimes the kittens in each litter are all one color, sometimes four different colors! We do our genetic testing through the University of California at Davis, and our cats can produce all the colors.

Callie, affectionally called our rainbow cat, will be able to produce all four colors plus RED, CREAM and TORTIE. Her mother is a big healthy cat from Thailand that produces the biggest, healthy, and most interesting looking kittens

will a Kitten get along with my current pets?

We certainly hope so! When adopting a kitten, it is best to slowly introduce the kitten to the current pet(s) in a HIGHLY SUPERVISED approach. If for some reason they do not get along, please reach out quickly and we will help advise or make other arrangements. In our experience, we have found that when a new kitten joins the family, there is a period of about 5-7 days of varying levels of tension…and then snuggles!

Never underestimate the ability of a kitten to EVENTUALLY snuggle into hearts of most persons or pets!

All new pets should start out in a small room, and gradually be introduced to the rest of your home a bit at a time. This will help them not get overwhelmed.

I am away most of the day. SHould I get two kittens to keep each other company?

Often people adopt two kittens at the same time to keep each other company while the household is away. These cats need A LOT OF ATTENTION, and providing them with a playmate for long stretches of empty house is ALWAYS a good idea!

Can a kitten actually improve my health?

Countless stories from others and our own personal experiences confirms that these felines can help you live a better and happier life through their great companionship. This is at the heart of why we are called Companion Cats and Kittens.

They are at the door when you get home. They dive on the floor and roll over for their stomach to be scratched. And they are often ready and willing to be carried around like a baby…or perch on your shoulder while you sit on your couch finishing that email or enjoying your favorite show.

Can I get my cat declawed?

NEVER EVER DE-CLAW THESE CATS. It is the equivalent of you cutting off one of your fingers. There are countless articles about this online and many states and jurisdictions are now outlawing it. Please do not request a cat or return your cat if you want to de-claw.

To keep the cat’s nails from getting too sharp, it is important to cut them regularly with cat nail trimmers.  Starting young, give the kitten a paw massage when snuggling. This way, the cats will get comfortable with you touching their paws. Then every two weeks or as needed, clip their nails at home.

The cats require a cat tree or cat scratcher available, preferably with catnip on it.This will help assist with keeping their nails less sharp.

CAN THESE CATS BE INDOOR/OUTDOOR CATS?

Our cats CANNOT GO OUTSIDE unless they are on a harness with a leash. They do not have the skills to survive outdoors, will be exposed to diseases or will definitely be stolen.  If let outside unaccompanied, you will likely not see them again.

What does a day in the life of a kitten look like?

We consider it a privilege to bring Burmese kittens to the world. It is a responsibility we do not take lightly, and strive to be only the best stewards of this process. It brings us immense joy to raise these cats and to see that joy spread to those that choose to join the family and take home a kitten of their own. We deeply care about the lives they live after they leave our home.

Our cats come from a long, multi-generational line of loved, nurtured, and extremely socialized cats. Their parents, grandparents, etc. were chosen to continue the breeding line based on 3 factors: Genetic Diversity, Health, and Personality.

Our cats live in free ranging indoor colony where they are NEVER locked in a cage, are well fed with high quality food, provided filtered water, and even use fancy automated litter boxes that provides a fresh bed of litter every few minutes!

They are constantly picked up and have enrichment time on multiple occasions each day.

Before your kitten arrives at your home, we promise you it will experience so much love and kindness from me and my family.

May I tour?

When googling tips for buying a kitten, many websites recommend requesting a tour of the breeder’s facilities. This totally makes sense to us, though it is not feasible to give tours currently.

With kittens that are not yet vaccinated, we MUST protect the health and wellness of the kittens by minimizing outside, uncontrolled exposure.

The best way to see how our cats live is to follow our INSTAGRAM page.

One of the biggest benefits to the free-ranging cat colony approach is that the cats are not territorial. Have you ever been to a cat shelter and noticed that the entire place smells like cat pee? That is why! Because we limit the colony to one male per multiple females, the need to spray/claim territory is eliminated here. Unhappy, nervous cats leads to pee…we keep it pee free!

We also have multiple HEPA air filters…making us confident the air these cats breathe is higher quality than the air we breathe!
